It was a crisp autumn day and our community came together to help us create a beautiful fall barbecue to celebrate our engagement.  Friends and family gathered and mingled.  We ate honey baked chicken and homemade pumpkin pie and talked by the fire into the night.  Most importantly, we were reminded how blessed we are to have such love and support in our lives.  Thanks family!

From top left: homemade invites based on a collaboration between myself and Joe, painting and bunting by Joe, me and Sarah (bridesmaid), friends around the fire pit

We got engaged in Rome on Gianicolo Hill, overlooking the city.  We were there to attend an authentic Italian wedding of two friends in the town of Veroli.  Amazingly beautiful.

Joe says my dreams are going to take us far.  I have a lot of dreams and I daydream a lot.  Like many girls, I started dreaming about my wedding several years ago.  I envisioned the aesthetics mostly, at times which I discussed incessantly to my younger sister's chagrin.  (Sorry K.C.)  Then, four years ago, I got a desk job. When you sit in an office with gray walls day in and day out, it's hard not to be inspired by what you find on the Internet thanks to people like KathrynJoy and Max where visual delights and clever wedding ideas are abound.

I started collecting.  My "Wedding Research" Google doc features found Internet resources (7 pages and counting) on the subject of wedding planning and it began way before I ever got engaged.  Embarrassing, maybe, but I feel very studious to have prepared for this moment so thoroughly.

We met in Mrs. Sewell's 2nd grade class.  For fun I try to think about every memory I can of Joe before our relationship began.  Like my stubborn elementary school crush on the kid with the mullet despite Joe being the handsomest boy in class - which my older sister pointed out with vigor, or absently passing him love notes from other girls in 6th grade English class, and watching Xanadu at his apartment during college.

It began one fateful early March evening, while Joe was in grad school and I was working my first full time job.  We danced.  Our first kiss was magic.  I felt an instant, transcending connection.  That was it, we were hooked, and we haven't looked back since.

I proposed to my boyfriend.  I did it almost monthly, whenever the mood struck.  Then my boyfriend proposed to me with a ring made out of masking tape.  It wasn't for real yet, each time we knew.  But on August 2, 2010, nervously and carefully, overlooking the city of Rome, it happened.  Joe asked me to be his wife and I said yes yes yes yes yes, now I wear a pretty ring, and we are happy happy happy engaged.
